Since the implementation of its five-year Strategic Plan, the American Samoa Department of Education and its partners continue to strengthen partnerships with all its stakeholders and partners involved in conducting and implementing outreach, lessons, activities, and events. Collaboration is the key component among our partnerships in everything we do. The launching of the ‘Survive Outside’ project by ETR Associates brought about much involvement within partners in assisting health educators in the schools to teach HIV/AIDS/STI-related concepts to students in the classroom as well as youth in various organizations (e.g., youth groups, faith-based organizations, village groups). These opportunities allow partners to reach not only the youth but parents, guardians, and anyone involved with youth in these different settings. Partners are also very much involved in providing professional development (PD) to teachers during their monthly PD opportunities and summer institutes. They provide the content knowledge and resources that are needed for classroom practices for both the teachers and students. Another major event where all partners are very committed to is our Annual Wellness Fair. Since its inception in 2009, this event continues to bring the residents of American Samoa together in learning about their health and providing the services they need. These are only a few of the many projects that our partners work towards meeting one their many goals.
