Cherokee Nation

Taking Reproductive Health Education to the Cherokee Nation One Step at a Time

As part of our CDC grant, we are trying to implement comprehensive reproductive health curricula in the middle and high schools within our 14 county tribal jurisdictional area which consists of 152 schools. In the past it has been difficult to meet the immediate demands of our state operated school system. Our main success at this time is the implementation of a tier-based approach in which we handle our educational programs. The tier-based system was created to allow the schools within the Cherokee Nation to access prevention services efficiently and effectively, as well as affords the opportunity for assessment, policy development and technical assistance through a collaborative approach.

Feel free to ask a member of the Cherokee Nation team for more about the Cherokee Nation Tier Based Approach. We are happy to share! Wado! (Ask us what that means while you’re at it!)
